How The Co-op Got Its Name
The Co-op has been named in honour of John Fitzpatrick, the United Steelworkers of America regional co-ordinator for Metro Toronto.
John became an active member of the United Steelworkers Local Union 3589 soon after he started working at American Standards Products in 1948.
In 1963 he joined the Steelworkers staff and since then he has bargained hundreds of collective agreements and has fought arbitration and compensation cases for hundreds of members. He has been in the front lines of many Toronto’s most important labour struggles.
The Co-op symbolizes John’s lifelong concern for the lives of working people.
